You won't find an awful lot of rural farmland in Japan, but Hokkaido is the place to find most of it!

Above is Mount Komagatake visible from everywhere in Nanae. Below, gorgeous Lake Onuma beckons.

Onuma park is a popular tourist spot, yet still retains a peaceful and contemplative mood:

Perhaps to balance out the calm "zen" feelings of Onuma park, we climed (part of) Mount Esan, an active volcano!


We decided to call this the summit, at any rate...
