My name is David Nurenberg, and I'm a student at Brandeis Univeristy who is pursuing an undergraduate degree in English/Creative Writing and Education. At Brandeis, I work as a consultant for Computing Services , and serve as both copy editor of The Watch, the campus liberal magazine, and managing editor of The Gravity, the humor magazine. I'm a cum laude society graduate of The Williston Northampton School, and a struggling science fiction writer. For more about me, you can visit my own homepage.

To be honest, I had no real knowledge of Yiddish until I stumbled into an internship at the National Yiddish Book Center...and nu, suddenly I'm up to my oigen in Yiddish language, literature, and culture! I fell in love with Yiddish as my fellow interns and I sorted, shelved, boxed, and shlepped more than 35,000 Yiddish texts in only 8 weeks.

Although this page is not in any way affiliated with or endorsed by the National Yiddish Book Center, I had such a fantastic experience there that I want to share it with people. Click here to take a Virtual Tour of the 1996 NYBC Internship.

This page took me many weeks and much research to compile, and though I did it all by myself, I sure used a lot of resources and references. Click here to see the credits for this page.

Finally, let me just say that preserving Yiddish as a language is vital, or else we loose the wisdom of the hundreds of fantastic authors whose books now sit dusty and unread. Learning about this culture can be fun and fascinating, and I hope this page peaks your interest.

David Nurenberg
